Unlock Your Guitar Mastery – Craft Amazing Solos & Melodies On the Fretboard! (Steve Stine)

Welcome back! This is Steve Stine from Lessonface. This month, I want to start putting together all of the concepts we’ve been studying in terms of both a thinking process and on your fretboard.

The goal is to start creating music. We need to figure out what our available options are for a particular chord. For example, let’s say I have a G chord. I could go with G minor pentatonic or G major pentatonic. Then, I can expand that pentatonic to add extended notes and create diatonic.

One of the main problems I faced for many years as a guitar player was not having a theme to my playing. I knew how to play shapes, licks, and other things, but I was just moving around the fretboard without making any kind of music.

That’s why it’s important to understand how to move in and out of layers on the fretboard with intention. To do this, you need to be aware of the scale and chord structure of the song. You also need to understand the melody of the song you’re playing, so you can craft your own melodies while playing.

Finally, you need to understand how to create tension and resolution. Tension is created by playing notes that don’t fit into the key, while resolution is created by playing notes that fit the key. When you combine tension and resolution, you create musical phrases that sound great.

By understanding how to move in and out of different layers on your fretboard, you’ll be able to craft amazing solos and melodies. Give it a try and you’ll be surprised at how great your playing can sound.

Good luck!
